Some Useful Books for More Light Members

These books represent a very small selection from a large number of possibilities.  We have chosen them on the basis of availability, quality, and user friendliness.  Titles available from Amazon are directly linked to their site.

Books on Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP)

Dawna Markova writes clearly and selects immediately useful NLP topics for discussion.

No Enemies Within : A Creative Process for Discovering What's Right About What's Wrong

The Open Mind : Exploring the 6 Patterns of Natural Intelligence

Connirae and Tamara Andreas  Core Transformation : Reaching the Wellspring Within
This is a new book which has received very good reviews.  Connirae Andreas is one of the early NLP developers.

Richard Bandler and John Grinder  The Structure of Magic : A Book About Language and Therapy

John Grinder and Richard Bandler  The Structure of Magic : A Book About Communication and Change

This pair of books is the classic original publication of NLP.

The Gurdjieff Work

G. I. Gurdjieff  Meetings With Remarkable Men
This is Gurdjieff's most approachable work.  It is an allegorical autobiography.  It is very entertainingly written and contains much useful wisdom but should not
be taken too literally.  (Gurdjieff was a great joker.)

P. D. Ouspensky  In Search of the Miraculous: Fragments of an Unknown Teaching
This is the classic introduction to Gurdjieff's teaching.  There is a very great amount of wisdom here, but it is not easy reading.

Maurice Nicoll was a student of Jung before he met Gurdjieff and Ouspensky. His 6 volumes of Commentaries is one of the treasures of the work.  He writes very simply and clearly, and these books are probably the most direct way into Gurdjieff's teaching.  The first 3 volumes are the most important.

Psychological Commentaries on the Teaching of Gurdjieff and Ouspensky Volume 1

The New Man : An Interpretation of Some Parables and Miracles of Christ.
This is available from By the Way Books, but not from Amazon.  This book illustrates the idea that what Gurdjieff taught was "esoteric Christianity."

Jungian Psychology

Eugene Pascal  Jung to Live By
A good general introduction to Jung's ideas.

Jolande Jacobi  Psychology of C.G. Jung : An Introduction With Illustrations
Another good introduction to Jung's ideas by one of his closest followers.

Carl Gustav Jung  Memories, Dreams, Reflections
This is Jung's autobiography - an amazing and wonderful book.

Robert A. Johnson's many books are uniformly excellent.  They illustrate how to apply Jung's ideas to various situations and myths.  These two books offer direct guidance in using the Jungian model in our own lives.

Inner Work : Using Dreams and Active Imagination for Personal Growth

Owning Your Own Shadow : Understanding the Dark Side of the Psyche

Alice O. Howell Jungian Symbolism in Astrology
This book is a good example of how Jung's ideas may be used to relate different symbol systems to psychological mechanisms and structures.

Edward F. Edinger Ego & Archetype : Individuation and the Religious Function of the Psyche
This book is a deep examination of how the process that Jung called individuation appeared in Christian symbolism and alchemy

Marie-Louis Von Franz was one of Jung's most influential collaborators.   Her writings offer clear insights into what is really involved in Jungian work.

Projection and Re-Collection in Jungian Psychology : Reflections of the Soul

Alchemical Active Imagination

Miracles, Synchronicities, and unusual events

Agnes Sanford is an example of what might be called a Protestant Saint.  Her down to earth approach to prayer and healing are most useful for forming an intelligent view of these topics.

The Healing Light An uncommonly sensible book on prayer by an expert.

Sealed Orders This is Agnes Sanford's autobiography.  It is a wonderful book.

Patricia Treece  The Sanctified Body
Out of print.  This interesting book is a study of the behavior and physiology of Saints.  Agnes Sanford appears as one of these - the only Protestant in the collection.

Books on the Enneagram

Kathy Hurley and Theodorre Donson Discover Your Soul Potential: Using the Enneagram to Awaken Spiritual Vitality
A most useful and clear presentation of the Enneagram as a tool for spiritual growth, by our teachers.

Helen Palmer The Enneagram: Understanding Yourself and the Others In Your Life
Really the book that started it all and still one of the very best introductions to the subject

Don Richard Riso and Russ Hudson The Wisdom of the Enneagram : The Complete Guide to Psychological and Spiritual Growth for the Nine Personality Types
The latest contribution from two of the leaders in the field. Highly recommended

Books on Voice Dialog

Hal and Sidra Stone Embracing Our Selves: The Voice Dialogue Manual
The basic book on Voice Dialog by its inventors.

Miriam Dyak The Voice Dialogue Facilitator's Handbook, Part I: A Step By Step Guide To Working With The Aware Ego
A most useful step by step guide to the Voice Dialog process by one of the Stone's principle trainers.

Books on Dreamwork

Will Phillips Every Dreamer's Handbook : A Step-By-Step Guide to Understanding and Benefiting from Your Dreams
A useful guide to dream work with a nice 14 element work sheet to aid in your interpretation of your dreams.

Stase Michaels The Bedside Guide to Dreams
A nice overview of many types of dreams, with a simple method to approach a dream and hints as to how to determine what type your dream is.

Jeremy Taylor Where People Fly and Water Runs Uphill : Using Dreams to Tap the Wisdom of the Unconscious
Good stories and examples of dream interpretation, and advice for forming a group to do cooperative dreamwork.

Robert Bosnak A Little Course in Dreams
A wonderful little book by a Dutch Jungian.   Well worth reading, if not as helpful as some of the other books in this list.

John Sanford Dreams, Gods Forgotten Language
John Sanford was Agnes Sanford's son, an Episcopalian priest and a Jungian analyst.  He combines Jungian and Christian perspectives in a masterful way.
